The story
Billie Campbell was a British dance band vocalist active throughout the 1930s and 1940s. A prolific freelance session singer and radio broadcaster, Campbell lent her warm, expressive vocal style to several of the era's premier British ensembles. Her notable credits include recordings and live radio performances alongside Hatchett's Swingtette, Harry Leader And His Band, Jack Payne And His Band, and The Savoy Orpheans. During the mid-to-late 1940s, she frequently collaborated as a house session singer for musical director Harry Bidgood's studio setup, providing the sentimental vocal refrains for Primo Scala's Accordion Band on Decca Records.
