Born in 1973 in Wolfsburg, Germany, Erdmann began playing the saxophone at the age of eleven.
He studied at the Hanns Eisler Conservatory in Berlin and became part of a group of musicians playing contemporary jazz and improvised music. He got a grant to work in Paris in 2001 and since then he has shuttled between the two cities.
