The story
Marc Liebscher has been an important figure in Munich’s independent music scene since the 1990s. Originally known as a Britpop and indie DJ, he was closely connected with the city’s club scene and helped promote the emerging “Germ-Pop” movement around Germering and Munich.
His most important success came with Sportfreunde Stiller. Liebscher discovered the band at their early performance as Endkrass, encouraged them to continue, became their manager and quickly organised their first tour. He remained their manager as they developed from a small local band into one of Germany’s best-known rock groups.
Liebscher was also involved in artist development and independent record releases. Through his label Blickpunkt Pop, he released music by artists from the Munich scene and helped give young local acts a platform. He was closely connected to bands including Splendid (4) and The Vertical Orange Car Crash, both part of the lively Germering scene from which Sportfreunde Stiller emerged.
